As rumored, Nintendo announced today that it will be bringing a Super Smash Bros. themed 3DS XL handheld to North America alongside two more special editions featuring the NES and JRPG Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.
The announcement at GameStop Expo revealed that both red and blue variants of the Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL will be available on 19 September for US$199.99, well ahead of the 3 October release date for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
The NES Edition Nintendo 3DS XL, modeled after the original Nintendo Entertainment System controller, will be available on 10 October. The Persona Q Edition Nintendo 3DS XL will launch alongside Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth on 25 November. Both console variants are GameStop exclusives and will retail for US$199.99.
None of the specialty themed 3DS XL consoles will come with a game. Nintendo recently announced that the New Nintendo 3DS system, with new hardware features and control inputs, will launch in Japan on 11 October. A North American release for this iteration of the 3DS has not been announced.
