Final Fantasy XIII for PC Is… Sub-Par

Square Enix’s 2010 RPG Final Fantasy XIII launched today for Windows PC via Steam, but all is not well in Cocoon. The PC port offers precious little in the way of configuration options, and defaults to some anemic settings compared to what PC gamers expect in a modern game.

The game is locked at a resolution of 1280 x 720 and has no configurable settings for graphics such as anti-aliasing, depth of field, or anisotropic filtering. Hitting the Escape button quits to desktop immediately, while Alt-F4 prompts the user to confirm exiting the game.

Popular game mod developer Durante has already released a plugin to allow the game to run at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Durante is known for crafting mods that increased the quality and playability of the PC port of From Software’s 2012 action RPG Dark Souls.

Sequels Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns are also coming to Steam in Spring 2015.
